David Muntner is the visionary, leader, and founder of Renaissance Messaging. He fell into marketing because it is the one area of business that allows him to tap into his endless supply of curiosity. He has written marketing messaging for over a hundred top leaders and influencers in fields from law to witchcraft to science to finance to cryptocurrency. In 2020, he established his vision of forming a collective of curiosity-driven, Renaissance men and women to offer radically different and more effective marketing strategies based on truth and authenticity.
Episode Highlights:
9:37 – The passion behind entrepreneurship. “If you're running a business of any sort, you make the rules. That's why I like entrepreneurship. There was one day where I realized that my business can be fun and that I don't actually have to tolerate anything less than. All of a sudden, that's when you have the ripples of fun and enjoyment. I also run a marketing company, Renaissance Messaging, and a consulting firm, Visionary Consulting. Then there's the music. I host retreats twice a year, where entrepreneurs from all walks of life come together to write their own song. In the beginning, everyone's really nervous, but at the end, everyone is really enthusiastic to share. This goes back to the conversation around business and having art versus product that you're creating for someone else or yourself. If you do have a passion, it's worth pursuing. Every Sunday for me is a creativity day. I find that like when I feel satisfied and excited, it transcends the other areas of business too.”
28:36 – Balancing passion and alignment with satisfaction. “When I think about passion, I also think about leaders moving in a direction that they feel connected to. They're aligned in that accomplishment, and it feels good. I like to focus on energy when I work with CEOs because I can sense when a CEO's energy is actually in scarcity. It ties into fear and that fear generally is in sadness and not being satisfied with something. That's why I lean into my artistic Sundays because I know every entrepreneur wants to move forward super quickly and has a difficulty in being present. I find it so important to take vacation because when you're enjoying the journey, you're not rushing it, and it tends to be more fun. It’s a balance on knowing what you’re passionate about and aligned with but also knowing what you’re doing on a regular basis to be really satisfied with your life. The grind is very temporary and it's fun to find out what the source is that lights you up. It’s just your own personal or professional ecosystem that you need to make sure is fun.”
34:23 – Finding your passion today. “Some people are in denial on that they've been going on the wrong path for so long because it's actually horrifying to think they've not been on the healthiest, best path for themselves. The first thing is an acknowledgement that this is the right path. Why is it the right path? Because it's the path you're on. Just accept what is there and make it more enjoyable. I help people create space for whatever that passion is, or how to discover it. Give yourself one day a week where there's no rules and lots of space to see what you're drawn to. When we do retreats, it's all about play. Think about what gave you energy as a kid and realize that will still give you energy today. My favorite people to work with are the ones who know they're competent but know something is missing. They know what tapping into their potential looks like because they tasted it before in their life, but they're having a difficult time finding or lighting that fire. Go for the jugular of what lights you up and apply that to your business because it tends to create a 10X effect in a lot of areas in your life.”
