Michael L. Coates is president and founder of PIMadeEasy.com, a national do-it-yourself educational online portal for providers accepting personal injury patients on lien, and Medical Lien Recovery, a full-service lien negotiations firm that has helped hundreds of California medical services providers win far higher resolutions against attorneys in thousands of patient cases. In this episode of TechTalk Podcast, Brad Cost, Dr. Jay Greenstein, and Michael Coates sit down to discuss:

Adopting, adapting, and seeing the forest from the trees for a better view.
SHOW NOTES:
1:32 – Becoming a believer. “In my very first years, I was as a medical malpractice defense attorney and had had chronic back problem for a long time. In fact, it got so bad, I literally couldn't play with my own children. It was just ruining my life. One of the guys at my YMCA gym, Tim Noble, is a ward certified sports chiropractor and told me to come see him. I went from not being able to play with my kids to being able to play with them again. There was no greater impact on my life than being able to enjoy my children again. Suddenly, I just became this huge believer. After he did this, it's like you do for me and I'll do for you. He says he has about five attorneys that are trying to screw him on his bills and asked if I could help. To cut it short, he got 100% of his chiropractic bills on all five matters. He looked at me this incredible disbelief, but I was surprised this wasn't normal. Nobody was championing you guys, and I got so upset because I believe in the love of chiropractic. Chiropractors around this country are the heart and soul of the local communities. Even though I do all medical specialties, I decided to be a champion for you guys because you guys are my love. It's been this long journey for over a decade now.”
4:13 – Moving the needle with the Chiropractic Future Strategic Plan. “I've volunteered on a lot of different things, but I’m not just there to be on a list. I'm tired of things not moving a needle. With Chiropractic Future Strategic Plan, I found something that was seeking to move the needle in chiropractic. All the problems I saw that could rally everybody around to raise chiropractic as a medical profession nationally. They didn't know the magic. I didn't really know until I had the need. What a great journey to be with such amazing people from the chiropractic field. I've been blessed to be part of that. You know, there's so many quality people and when you put people together in a room, whether it's virtual or live, magic can happen. That's what I see happening for chiropractic.”
11:34 – Seeing the forest better from the trees. “Everybody's got their own perspectives on things and, in a way, that's just a coalition, but it's a way of getting updated. You hear what's going on and want to be part of it, but only by being in that room do you get expose to it. That is so cool. I just dig it. I love seeing all the contributions. Brad, with people like you and me not being chiropractors, the Summit brings outside experience and perspective to the group. With that view, we can either accept or tweak with it. Sometimes we can see the forest a little bit better from the trees. Jay, chiropractors are incredible healers, but there aren't a lot of people like you. You're a very amazing top-notch businessman, but great healers, most times, are unfortunately not so good when it comes to the areas of business. That's why it's great when we bring it all together because you need all of that input from the different areas to proceed forward.”
15:43 – Adopting & adapting. “One of the core values like that I have as a company is to adopt and adapt. You find out what's working somewhere else, and you tweak it for where you're at. Chiropractic has so many things that it could adopt and adapt for itself. And I think Brad's a great leader in that, for example.”
26:26 – How Michael is helping the chiropractic profession. “I'll be speaking at the MAC Conference in Michigan, I'll be at ChiroCongress, and I'm going to Kentucky in January. Whenever your state is at a conference and I'm not there, but you want things about personal injury, talk to the association ahead. I'm happy to come out to help you guys. I’m just around speaking, teaching, and hopefully inspiring. I’m wanting you guys to learn, apply, and improve. For what I do in personal injury, there's really three things I have to help you guys. Number one is, I just launched a book. It’s called “Personal Injury Made Easy,” and it’s the roadmap for medical providers for success on the high profit highway. It’s on Amazon now! Number two is, I have an outsourced service called PI Billing Pros. There are some law firms that are really good to you guys, but there are those that are a little more challenging and like to take advantage. I'm like the Tiger Woods of lien negotiation. If you were on a golf course and you could give your bag to Tiger Woods to play for you against the guys you’re betting against, do think you're going to have a good chance of making a lot of money? Yeah, with Tiger! When you bring me in, it’s like you brought in Tiger Woods because I know more than these guys know. Number three is, I have a coaching-mentoring program with all kinds of tools and resources called the Business Advantage Program. It's there to teach you on the three main segments, what I call the high profit highway for PI. It’s on processes, being profitably paid, and growth. Whether it's seeing me speak, buying the book, using me as an outsource to negotiate, or being coached on how to do this better and right, I'm here to serve.”
